Captain George Steiger, US Army/ Costal Artillery was stationed on the Island Fortress of Corregidor (Fort Mills) from September 1941 until its capture by Japanese armed forces early May 1942. He kept a diary. In this piece we see what life was like shortly before hostilities broke out (December 7, 1941) and an account of his role in the fighting, which ended early May 1942. This diary excerpt ends with the evacuation of U.S Army Men to Manila. Captain Steiger spent the duration of WW2 in various Japanese POW Camps. BB
